A little story about how I got here! BUT where am I? Let's find out...
Hi, I am Scott Burgess, happily married for 20+ years, father of 4 teenage daughters, and I just turned the young age of 49. I can easily say that in my 49 years, I am the healthiest, strongest, leanest in all aspects of my life - and wise enough to know I have a lot more to learn as I enter the second half of my century!
My interest and curiosity in medicine began as a child and continued into young adulthood as I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine with a focus in Human Kinesiology at Northeastern University, Boston, MA (‘99). While I was earning my degree, I was also a top performing NCAA Division 1AA football scholarship student-athlete. Prior to graduating, I was fortunate to have met the love of my life while at Northeastern, and we married in 2003. During the years leading up to our first daughter’s birth, my wife and I were the owners and operators of a sports performance facility in New Hampshire.
However, once we became parents, everything changed!
Seeking Care
After complications from birth, our baby seemed to be allergic to nearly everything within the first year of us becoming parents. To help our daughter, we aggressively seeked answers within the allopathic healthcare system, and we quickly discovered the majority of medical doctors, including the pediatric specialists, were either undertrained and did not have the necessary education for my daughter’s condition, or the medical doctors’ default was always to recommend pharmaceutical prescriptions rather than addressing the underlying root cause that was leading to her physiological instability.
Furthermore, the majority of these "highly" recommended, "top-rated" doctors lacked the bedside manner and personal care acumen, parents like us, who were both inexperienced and terrified for our baby, would have benefited from.
In retrospect, this lack of individual attention and care turned into a blessing in disguise for my wife and I. This challenge prompted us to look more extensively into alternative healthcare possibilities and options to consider.. As a result of our quest, we were introduced to other parents in similar situations, and realized these parents were our best source of guidance in the medical world. Almost all of the parents we met had children with multi-level auto-immune disorders, autism spectrum disorders (many of which were misdiagnosed with P.A.N.D.A.S.), as well as multi-level digestive disorders, including leaky gut syndrome (back then Gastro MDs laughed at us when we even brought up that possibility). My wife and I soon took the lead in encouraging other parents to look into alternative treatments and options to exhaust during their medical pursuits for answers. Our daughter’s quality of life was literally saved by Integrative Medicine Specialist Kenneth Bock, MD of Rhinebeck, NY, as well as our local chiropractor, homeopath, and clinical nutritionist—all of whom were located within two miles of our New Jersey home!
Affording Care
Prior to finding our daughter the right care, we moved to New Jersey so that my wife’s extended family could help our young family. Frankly, we needed more income to afford the alternative treatments available to our daughter, as those care options were not covered under traditional U.S. based healthcare insurance plans. Also, at this time, my wife transitioned from her career in higher education to become a stay-at-home-mom, in the role of our daughter’s primary medical care taker. In order to afford these major life changes, I took on a new role with a German company who sold expensive capital equipment into the operating room of hospitals, and then integrated my sports medicine degree I earned at Northeastern University, and combined with my high school architectural design focus and degree and ventured into hospital clinical space.
Career in Hospital Clinical Space Design
Since then, I have been a staple, as well as a leader, in the healthcare design business. I have consulted with and advised the more renowned surgeons and highly regarded hospitals in the United States. For the past 19 years, and throughout the continental United States, I plan, advise, and carry out the design modeling of the most cutting-edge operating rooms, intensive care patient suites, and level 1 trauma centers. The clinical space projects that I am most proud of over the years include Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, Boston and Philadelphia Children's Hospitals, and Mass General in Boston, MA. Additionally, I am positioned to be at the vanguard of medical research and practices, I am hands-on and immersed in U.S. hospital practices. Even though I am in a leadership role as a healthcare consultant, I never gave up on my own education, and above all, I am leading my family’s healthcare with my curiosity to natural medicine, as well as basing care on past lessons learned.
In fact, all four of our daughters are receiving practically all of their care from complementary and alternative medicinal sources. As the years have gone by, I have become increasingly conscious of the numerous shortcomings and gaps in conventional allopathic healthcare; individuals, particularly those closest to us, were becoming sicker…considering the great technology and access to care provided to most (I know this first hand), we are, and have been, living in the "have a problem, take a pill" era, and I didn't want that for anyone I care about.
Think about this for a moment…
In addition to having more access to doctors and peer-reviewed science and information than anyone could possibly read, as a nation, we enjoy greater access to fitness and wellness centers than we have ever had on an individual basis as well as culturally. The greatest medical technology ever created and implemented, as well as increased access to international health practices and concepts,. Still! Based on data from the previous ten years in a row, we rank 38th and sometimes even higher in terms of global health while coming in first place for the most expensive healthcare worldwide. How does any of this make sense???
Have a Problem? Take a pill!
So, I decided to do my part and contribute. In my attempt to do something about the “have a problem, take a pill” mindset, I established an internationally syndicated podcast where I interviewed insightful guests who brought to light the shortcomings in healthcare. Initially, the majority of my guests were specialists who discussed their approaches and alternative choices they made as practitioners themselves - for example, several of these medical doctors turned from practicing cardiology intervention and shifted to naturopathic medicine! My audience, from all over the world, looking for options and alternatives to “have a problem, take a pill," was drawn in by this diversion of the topic and demanded more, and more, and more!
Then, the terrible pandemic, the hospital atmosphere at the time of the pandemic, and my observations as a clinical space consultant, all served to reinforce my resolve to avoid my family falling into the traditional medical system, at all costs. I do believe that complementary medicine has its place, where the practitioner of alternative medicine takes the lead and hospitalization is limited to emergencies and traumas. I am convinced now, more than ever, that there are solutions that are safer (and affordable) and more gentle to human physiology than what we have been led to believe in modern day healthcare. We should all have the opportunity to exhaust and explore these options and the potential of this type of care.
Special Additional Training
Due to all that I learned with my 100+podcast interviews, I have expanded my knowledge base, below is an overview of the education, courses, seminars, and fellowships I have taken since graduating college in 1999, as a way to present my continued curiosity in learning, including my more recent hyper focus on my personal growth in the field of alternative medicine:

I practice what I preach
Additionally, I would like to give a glimpse into the tinctures, ointments, and remedies I make for my family regularly. I believe nutrient-dense whole food nutrition is the best source of medicine, I also believe roots and herbs make the best remedies. Lastly, I believe remedies are necessary for health due to the condition and lack of the constitution of the soil (better stated as dirt) used to grow food, due to the heavy “IDE” chemicals commonly used in farming practices, heavy metal exposures, and the lack of clean, drinkable, magnetically charged healing water. Some of these examples include the following:
Remedial tinctures
Natural remedies to remove free radicals
Hormonal tinctures for both men and woman
All-natural acne lotions
Spices dense in minerals
Sleep tinctures
Adrenal support tinctures
Solutions for neural and cognitive genesis to avoid deterioration of the neurological pathways
